Google has launched its new range of Pixel smartphones, with even more artificial intelligence features than previous models.
Since 2023, Google has been steadily increasing the amount of AI it offers on its Pixel devices, with this year’s models taking it to another level.
One new AI feature on the Pixel 10 phones is called “Magic Cue.” This is designed to automatically find information stored on the devices and display the data when it’s needed.
So if a user calls an airline, for example, Magic Cue should immediately recognize the phone number and display relevant flight information if it’s in Gmail or Google Calendar.
The Pixel 10 phones also come with a preview feature of a new AI tool called “Camera Coach” that will automatically suggest the best lens, framing and angles to use. The more expensive models include a “Super Res” option that uses a mix of different software and AI to capture the details of objects located miles away.
The Pixel 10 is also able to translate phone conversations in real time into a range of different languages using the participants’ own voices.
The AI expansion on the new Pixel models is part of Google’s efforts to broaden the use of a technology that is already changing society. It’s also a direct challenge to its competitors.
While sales of Google phones remain small next to iPhone and Samsung Galaxy devices, advances in AI could mean a big increase in competition.
Apple is under particular pressure, having only introduced a few basic AI features on the iPhone and failing to deliver on promises for a more conversational and versatile version of its virtual assistant Siri.
The prices of all four Pixel 10 models will remain unchanged from last year’s Pixel 9 phones, ranging from $800 for the most basic one to $1,800 for the foldable version.
